So the time had come to finally head over to Cineworld in Broughton to check out Deadpool & Wolverine in IMAX 3D and I had high hopes with this release as I’d tried to stay away from the trailers and spoilers that may have been doing the rounds before the release of the movie.

I’ve been writing, deleting, editing and re-writing this review since seeing Deadpool & Wolverine in IMAX 3D yesterday as to try and bring you a review that doesn’t give anything away as it’s so easy to drop in some spoilers as there is so much that will surprise you when you see the movie. Such as the amazing cameos that you see and sit there in the cinema and scream with excitement, OK yes I did do that and I do apologise to those around me at the screening.

The movie takes us back through the Marvel Multiverse with the TVA, the Merc with a Mouth and Wolverine, Wolverine is recuperating from his injuries when he encounters the talkative Deadpool. They join forces to take down a mutual foe.

Deadpool & Wolverine starts as it means to go on with an introduction that much like the first two Deadpool movies takes us on a little flashback to see how we got to the moment where the movie starts and we get the action that we know and love from the films. The IMAX 3D stands out at this point as we get something which I’ve not seen for a while in an IMAX 3D movie, frame breaking.

For those who aren’t sure about frame breaking, this is where items on the screen cross over the black lines at the top and bottom of the screen to give you that full-on 3D effect that things are popping out of the screen. There are plenty of these moments through the film and it’s a technique that I love to see in an IMAX 3D release.

The film itself is one that I was hoping it would be, to finally get Deadpool & Wolverine together as they should be on the big screen was like a dream come true, not only do we get all the foul-mouthed expletives that we have come to expect from DP we also get a Wolverine that is what many fans including myself have been waiting for. I’m not sure how the film got a 15 certificate as it is so clearly an 18-rated movie hiding behind the idea of it taking place in the multiverse where it seems the ratings are slightly more generous.

The action is over the top, the gory sequences work brilliantly and you forget you are watching an MCU movie and that you maybe should be laughing at some of the gratuitous death scenes, but besides that, this is a movie that shows that Marvel can bring itself back from the slump that it was in and deliver a movie that is not only fun but is entertaining for the 128 minute run time.

Director Shawn Levy has taken the characters and given them some amazing moments on the big screen that make this one hell of a fun movie. Ryan Reynolds who not only reprises his role as Deadpool also has the writing credits for this movie and has done a great job with fellow writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

Hugh Jackman is fantastic as Wolverine and it’s great to finally see him in the comic book yellow suit that we have all been waiting for, this is the portrayal of Wolverine that I have been dying to see for many years since the first X-Men movie back in 2000.

The introduction of Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) was a great touch to the feel for Deadpool & Wolverine, she not only looks great in the role but brought the character to life on the screen brilliantly.

As for the cameos, I’m not even going there! If you want to spoil it for yourself then that’s up to you but I think that doing so kills the excitement of the moments that the cameos appear in particular a few cameos in one scene that were one of those moments when you go, “oh F*&k yeah!”.

My advice is to try to keep away from the spoilers and whatever you do, DON’T LOOK AT THE CAST LIST ON IMDB!
