The Cineworld Secret Screening 14 has been revealed to be the movie “Novocaine,” starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp, and Jacob Batalon.
When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.
There was much anticipation for the evening’s screening with many hoping that it would be Novocaine, the trailer has been shown a good few times at Cineworld and after seeing the trailer I was looking forward to what looked to be a fun action-comedy starring Jack Quiad.
“Novocaine” starts slowly as we learn about Quaid’s character and the girl of his dreams, played by Midthunder. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when the place they work in is robbed by three men dressed as Santa Claus, who take Sherry hostage in their escape. Nate (Quaid) decides to take it upon himself to rescue the damsel in distress, leading us on a wild rollercoaster ride filled with action, comedy, and some intense moments you might want to look away from—especially a particularly unsettling scene involving fingernails.
There are some good action scenes spread throughout the movie and Quaid is certainly the best cast for the role on the back of his part in the superb Companion. His character is almost like a superhero but he’s not invincible, it’s only that he can’t feel pain which is a good thing as the amount of being shot, stabbed and generally getting his backside kicked throughout the the movie would stop anyone from trying to save their true love.
Directors Dan Berk & Robert Olsen have brought us an entertaining movie with plenty of action and comedy to keep us entertained. The cast does bring the characters to life, I loved Jack Quaid’s role of Nate and Amber Midthunder as Sherry brings a great onscreen presence between the two of them.
I did get the feeling watching Novacaine that it had that feel of a movie that I would probably see on the likes of Netflix or Prime Video, but seeing a film like this one is best on the big cinema screen as it adds to the excitement. Plus having a cinema sound system helps with some of the great sound effects and the music in the movie.
