We headed out for multiple Pattinsons at Cineworld Broughton for a screening of Mickey 17 in IMAX, a film I had been looking forward to seeing for a while after seeing the teaser trailer at the cinema some time back.
From Academy Award-winning writer and director Bong Joon Ho, known for “Parasite,” comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, “Mickey 17.” The story follows Mickey Barnes, played by Robert Pattinson, an unlikely hero who faces an extraordinary situation: he works for an employer that demands the ultimate commitment to the job—being willing to die for a living.
Mickey 17 is a visually stunning experience when viewed in IMAX. The expansive screen and immersive sound amplify the film’s rich visuals and intricate details, drawing viewers deeper into its futuristic world. I found myself laughing several times throughout the movie, and although this isn’t one of my favourite films from the director, it is certainly one that I enjoyed watching as we experience some of Mickey’s tragic deaths!
Robert Pattinson brings us some great scenes with his slight changes to the nuances of the character, but the biggest difference we see between Mickey’s is those between Mickey 17 and 18, I loved how we get the change that brings the character further that also brings more out of the dark humour that the film has very much from start to finish.
At times I did feel like the plot was a little overloaded, but this is made up with some great acting and some superb set design and special effects. Along with Pattinson’s brilliant performance, we have Mark Ruffalo as the leader of the expedition to the planet Niflheim, I can only describe the character as very Trump-ess even down to the movements and the bizarre things he keeps coming up with. Ruffalo is joined by Toni Collette as his wife who seems to have an obsession with “sauce”.
Naomi Ackie is fun to watch as Nasha, who is the love interest of this movie. There are some great moments with Mickey and Nasha throughout the film that work very well.
Mickey 17 is a thought-provoking and entertaining sci-fi adventure that greatly benefits from its IMAX presentation.
