The Cineworld Secret Screaming 3 has been revealed and the movie turned out to be Never Let Go starring Halle Berry in a strange story of evil in this cabin in the woods chiller.
When an unspeakable evil takes over the world, a mother and her twin sons find their only protection in their house and their strong bond. Needing to stay connected at all times, even tethering themselves with ropes, they must cling to one another and never let go. However, when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival.
After seeing the trailer for Never Let Go a couple of times at Cineworld I was intrigued by this release and the movie was one of my predictions for the Cineworld Secret Screaming 3, the trailer gave the feeling that the movie would have some nice little jump scares and it also seemed to show that Never Let Go may have some twists to keep us entertained.
I wasn’t expecting the movie to go in the direction it takes as we are introduced to Momma (Halle Berry) and her sons Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) and Nolan (Percy Daggs IV) who all live in the strange and creepy cabin in the woods and are confined to the house from the evil that lurks in the woods. They can only leave the house while attached to the rope so evil can’t touch them and get into the cabin.
As the Never Let Go plays we are given some nice little jump scares with one in the first couple of minutes which I have to say even made me jump slightly and make the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. You do get the feeling that there isn’t something just quite right with what is going on and besides the “cabin in the woods” horror feel, you also get the feeling that maybe Momma (Berry) isn’t telling the children the truth and there is more to her stories than we are lead to believe.
The idea of being misled is thrown into the mix later towards the end of the movie I won’t spoil it for you, but it left me thinking that everything that had happened so far was far from the full truth, but with a few twists and turns Never Let Go has you thinking deeper into what you have seen so far.
I’ve enjoyed Alexandre Aja‘s work as a director in the past, and “Crawl” was a movie that was fun to watch, I’m looking forward to “Crawl 2” which is currently in pre-production. “Never Let Go” is a movie that has some nice touches in the directing and cinematography, but make sure to watch the movie in a cinema with good quality, as the film is very dark at night and the definition may not be perfect to pick up everything.
This movie is certainly more thriller than horror, but the story by KC Coughlin and Ryan Grassby works for the majority of the movie, although there were a few moments that I found were left unfinished. There are twists and turns that I was surprised with and the ending of the movie is one that certainly has you wondering if a sequel could be on the way.
Never Let Go is a movie that you could only watch once, but it works for what it is and it’s certainly a movie that will work better on the big screen than a small screen.
